a DIY Hello Kitty Birthday party
My oldest daughter turned the big 5 years old!!! She begged and begged me for a hello kitty party. She doesn’t remember, but she had a hello kitty birthday when she turned one. In Korean tradition/customs, a one year old’s birthday is a huge affair- it is called a dol/돌. It’s actually a huge event because back in the olden days infants rarely lived past one. That’s why the 1st birthday is the biggest birthday celebration in Korean culture. Sorry for backtracking- the point of telling you that bit of info– was my girl already had a hello kitty birthday, and it was a big event. The thought of doing another one wasn’t exactly something I wanted to do to be honest! I remember how tedious and time consuming her first birthday was. It’s funny because when she turned one, Hello kitty wasn’t even her favorite. It was me that really liked hello kitty thinking such a party would be oh-so-cute. Fast forward to 4 years later, it’s my daughter begging me for the hello kitty party. Karma! I couldn’t say no, not just because of the look in her eyes~~ but more so the realization that I’M the one that probably created her hello kitty obsession 😉
Everything you see below was diy by me. Party planning /photography happen to be hobbies, so I can’t lie it wasn’t THAT bad. It was def labor of love, and it was worth every long night when I saw the look on my daughter’s face the morning of her party day.
All made with love:
lots of label designing cutting etc. But as for those hk bows u see below- I found them off free print website!
Ironically the letters C, H, L, O, and E were the ONLY letters I needed to make the two banners ‘Hello’ and ‘Chloe’.
an ice cube tray I used as a mold to make my chocolate pops
I boiled the end of a metal chopstick to poke holes into the bottoms so I could insert a stick inside.
I was really pleased with how they turned out!
6 lbs of sugar cookies. Used a diff recipe than usual-these were sooo chewy and perfect.
hello kitty’s naked faces. I cut off all of the imperfections with a knife
more sugar cookies. I had extra dough so I made some letter Cs and some little hello kitty star and heart cookies for snacks for the girls 🙂
multi tasking- strawberry cuppies on top, cake pops on the bottom
loved these hk cuppy liners i found.
vanilla ice cream cone cupcakes cooling
strawberry ice cream cone cake pops
lots of fondant cutting and molding
the nekkid skeleton of daughter’s 2 tier strawberry marble cake!
I cut off all the tops to make the fondant as level as possible
perfect.
nekkid
fondant time. This was so tedious to get it perfect!
Party time!
favors
Pastry take home boxes for the kiddos
the sugar cookies!! These (other than the cake) these sweets were the hardest treat to make! SO time consuming– eyes, nose , whiskers and make 40 fondant bows by hand!
I can’t believe that you are five today 사랑이~! You asked for your favorite, hello kitty for your birthday this year.

hi! just wanted to say you did an amazing job with the party! i’m sure it was your daughter’s dream come true! i LOVE sugar cookies and was wondering if u could direct me to the recipe if u don’t mind? thanks!
of course! I used this one:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/gale-gand/chewy-sugar-cookies-recipe/index.html
but, i tweaked a couple things) – used 3 cups of sugar and 5 tspn of buttercream. (extra sweet and chewy)
best sugar cookie recipe i have used in the last 10 years! try it!
XO
How amazing are you!! I Love love love the idea of icecream cone cake pops and those chocolate pops are too cute. I had to hide my laptop from my little girl just now while I was looking at this post otherwise she’d want a hello kitty party too. It’s also her favourite and just like you, I think I might have been the root of her obsession haha. I think you should enter these pics into those party blogs. Seriously amazing!

Hi, the party decoartions are fabulous, can you please tell me how you did the colorful backdrop on the wall behind the sweet table? thank you Eva
hello eva, thank you! Just get a sheer curtain and hang it on the wall, on top layer streamers that you can find at any craft or party store and get the thickness/color pallette you want. very easy! xo!
Such an amazing DIY Hello Kitty party! It’s every little girl’s dream come true. I had to get myself the hello kitty ice cube tray and I want to make the chocolate pops you made for my little girl’s 1st bday. They came out really great. Can you share the recipe you used? Thanks!
osae;
Hi, I love your party! I am thinking of doing a hello kitty party for my daughter whose name is Catherine a.k.a Cat. Can I tell me where you got the print for the pink bow that you put on top of the straws? I love them!
Love this entire party collection. You did an awesome job.
I wanted to know what you used for the “streamer” type backdrop. Thanks!
Omg you are great! How did you get the streamers to look like that! Im in lovee!
thanks girl! xO!
How did you get the streamers to look like that in the back drop?
thanks tauni! xo!
How did you crinkle the streamers like that in the back drop? Thx
Hello….what a beautiful tablescape! Can you please tell us how you did the streamers to make them have such a cool ruffled look…would love to do this for my daughters party this weekend. Thanks!
hello! fold the streamer in half (longways) hotdog style. you need to use a sewing machine and sew a straight line on that middle crease from one end to the next. Thats it! hope you have a great party!
I love this!!! How did you make the “Hello Chloe” banners?
